Are You A Carer? 

A carer is a person of any age who provides unpaid help and support to a relative, friend or neighbour, who cannot manage to live independently without the carer’s help, due to frailty, illness, disability or addiction.

Anyone looking after a person with an illness or disability, whatever their situation, is considered a carer with equal rights to help, support, information and services.

Carers Of West Lothian

A carer is a person of any age who provides unpaid help and support to a relative, friend or neighbour, who cannot manage to live independently without the carer’s help, due to frailty, illness, disability or addiction.

Newland Medical Practice works with Carers of West Lothian in identifying hidden carers in the practice and, with the carer’s consent, will refer them to Carers of West Lothian’s information and support service. Carers of West Lothian provides an information and support service to unpaid carers throughout West Lothian.This includes emotional and practical support, links to other resources and training.The organisation is part of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers (PRTC) network of organisations and is the only organisation in West Lothian with a specific remit to support unpaid carers. The organisation is in regular contact with over 2,000 carers. Please let us know if you think you should be registered with our Health Centre as a carer.
