Practice Policies & Patient Information
Consent for Treatment Of Children
Access to Medical Records by Children, Young People & Their Parents
Legally, patients from the age of 12, who are judged by the GP to be able to make decisions on their own, must agree if the practice is to give out medical information to their parent/guardian.
Patients who fall into this age group and require tests after seeing a clinician will be asked for their consent to share medical information with their parent/guardian and this will be recorded in their records.
GDPR
Your Personal Health Information
Newland Medical Practice aims to ensure the highest standards of medical care for our patients. To do this we keep records about our patients, their health and the care we have provided to them, and these contain personal information.
New legislation regarding the management and processing of personal information, known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is effective from 25th May 2018. The GDPR replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and is designed to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy and to reshape the way in which organisations across the region approach data privacy.
Our Data Protection Notice has been updated so that it provides more detail on how we use people’s personal information, and to comply with the requirements of the GDPR. You can see our Data Protection Policy by clicking on the button below.

Suggestions/Complaints
We welcome any comments, suggestions or complaints you may have regarding the building or the service we offer and our Practice Manager, Mrs Cameron is available to advise on administration and non-medical matters.
There is a suggestion box in reception and we welcome your comments as they are very important to the practice.
Teaching & Research
Training Practice
Newland Medical Practice is a training practice. Every August a new registrar joins us and receives 12 months GP training. A Foundation doctor will also join the practice every 4 months for training. We are also involved in the education and training of medical and nursing students. We would be grateful if you would accept them as part of the practice.
The doctor will inform you if a student is in attendance. They will ask if you are agreeable to them staying during the consultation. You have the right to say no. The students are the doctors and nurses of the future and practical experience is invaluable to them. Please help and encourage them as much as possible
Practice Development Training
Multi-disciplinary training takes place on the fourth Wednesday of every month or when advised. The practice closes from 1.00 pm onwards. A notice will be placed in the waiting area informing patients when this takes place.
Sometimes it will be necessary to close for one hour at lunchtime for staff meetings. These will be advertised in advance.
